Converting Audio Books to OGG/MP3

I've been thinking for a while about a simple (linux) way to convert audio books on cassette into .ogg files. Yesterday I sat down and hashed out a quick little audio book recording perl script. Assuming you have the mixer set to correctly record it works pretty flawlessly. I hit play on my tape player, run the perl script and tell it to record for 45 minutes, wait till it's done and move on to the next tape.
