SHFS
A guy on LiveJournal just brought the uber cool shfs to my attention. It allows you to mount a remount filesystem as if it were local using nothing but the already existing SSH port.
Modern versions of NFS are a huge joke, requiring four (!!) ports to be open on the external IP address. Are you kidding me? I was able to tunnel SMB over SSH and have samba listen on 127.0.0.1, but I think this is a much better solution. At least for the very simple file sharing I want to do.
