If you ping the IPV6 multicast address ff02::1 any IPV6 hosts that are on the same vlan as you will respond.

ping6 -I eth0 ff02::1

You can also ping ff02::2 and all the routers on your vlan will respond.

ping6 -I eth0 ff02::2
