at last ! I find it again :)
Is the Unix hacker modeled after Dennis Ritchie? See picture: http://www.bell-labs.com/history/unix/images/ritchie.jpeg
I think it's a universal
aha! i found you via "dilbert unix" on google. i was looking for that cartoon.
and yeah - us unix guys really are smug and condescending. but i dont go in for the braces and beard.
And now i've found it to! Cheers! :)
-Jonathan.
This cartoon hung on the wall of the ISP I worked at for years...I'm so happy its living on.
I started Unix in the early 80s, and I still have a beard. I find hiking boots and plaid shirts more ubiquitous than suspenders among us cognoscenti, though.
i was also looking for this cartoon. fantastic thing google.
% find / -name "Dilbert & Unix" -print
Thank you for keeping this where I can find it. I've had a copy of this in each of my cubicles since it first appeared.
blessings!
Ah! Unix. I feel so smug even while learning it! haha And this strip just exemplifies the whole unix culture.
yep i've had work mates in a couple of countries give me a chuckle over this when they've seen it on my X desktop, some have posted it on my cubicle wall. an old fart, beard 'n braces, specs and definitely *nix since late 70's, but being a dumb old fart i dont get it. my first serious computer cost well over $100k and ran hp's mpe.perhaps he is saying that a little bit extra gets a better computer, but from my experience those bloody hp3000'z and superdomes weren't worth anywhere near as much as my pocketpc for versatility, these days i'm just a dumb ass computer nerd sailing around the world on my yacht fixing computers when i need a beer and promoting linux always.... bald is good
I bumped into Linux this year when a friend gave me an old laptop that contained a bootlegged version of XP and a fake anti-virus program. The only way to clean it up was to install Linux, which I'd had no prior experience with and so thought it only a poor cousin of Windows. However, having used it for some time now, I have found there is nothing Linux can't do--except maybe open WAV files. It really does give you a feeling of empowerment that Windows kills by making things overly complicated--try using Office 2007. Anyway, I don't sport any suspenders, but does a fishing vest count?
Vintage! a Classic...the way i remembered!
Thanks, I was looking for this to post on slashdot. Happy New Year! -Joe
dilbert + unix google search. number 1.
Holy crap Yambag, I found you on stumble
Failure. It may have been true 40 years ago, but we're free folk nowadays.
@Dan: You can replace Unix with Linux. Or OpenSolaris, which is free and Unix.
My first computer was an IBM 360/50 running APL-24
BT4 ftw!
