Knoppix

A buddy found this new version of Linux called Knoppix. It's a CD based distribution, meaning the entire thing runs off the CD. There is no need to install anything on the HD. You get a fully functioning X server complete with Internet access (via: PPOE, Dial-Up, or Ethernet), and about 200 applications. Everything from network sniffers to games to text editors. You name it, it's there.

Really handy for testing an existing machine (with another OS installed) for speed, network connectivity, hardware probing etc. Very very cool.
